This exterior home renovation project in Algester was all about delivering a street appeal transformation for a dated brick home. The original house had strong structural bones but was visually lost among neighbouring properties. With its red tile roof and exposed brown brickwork, the home felt stuck in the past. The client wanted to create a modern exterior, including updates to the roof, facade, and fencing, to dramatically improve the visual identity of the property without needing structural changes to the house itself.
Before: The Problem with the Old House Exterior

While the original property in Algester was in good structural condition, its exterior design felt tired and outdated. It featured hallmark finishes of the 1980s, with a red tiled roof and exposed brown brickwork that no longer aligned with modern tastes. The garage door and entry were plain and uninviting, offering little visual interest from the street. Weathered timber fencing enclosed the sides and rear of the property, but there was no front boundary fence or entry gate, leaving the home visually open and lacking privacy or street presence. The driveway and front path were finished in brick paving, but had begun to sink and discolour in places. While the bay windows remained a charming character feature, the front landscaping lacked cohesion with the overall design of the property.

Project Details: How We Transformed the House Exterior
Contemporary Styling with Sharp Contrasts
The original red roof tiles were painted with a modern charcoal colour, instantly giving the home a sleek architectural profile. The exposed brown brick facade was fully rendered and painted, transforming the house with a bold black and white palette that reflects current design trends. Both the garage and entry door were upgraded to matte black finishes. A carport was also added, providing practical covered parking while visually extending the roofline. A matching flat roof was also installed over the driveway, offering weather protection for vehicles and people entering and exiting the home. The home’s bay windows were retained, but the dated timber frames were replaced with sleek black frames for a more contemporary finish.
New Fencing for Security and Style
A full-height rendered boundary fence with aluminium horizontal black slats was installed along the front of the property that tied in with the home’s updated colour scheme. This created a bold, modern frontage while enhancing privacy and security from the street. The original timber fencing along the side and rear boundaries was replaced with Colorbond fence panels, installed by one of our trusted fencing contractors servicing Beenleigh to Brisbane.
Improved Landscaping and Entry Path
The old brick-paved driveway and path were replaced with a clean, modern exposed aggregate concrete finish, giving the entryway a clear sense of arrival. The garden beds and scattered shrubs were removed in favour of a clean, low-maintenance lawn that allowed the home’s modern architecture to take centre stage. The simplified landscaping enhanced the visual clarity and balanced the bold monochrome elements of the facade.
Extended Outdoor Living
While the original property featured a small, uncovered area at the rear, it offered limited functionality to the homeowners. As part of the transformation, a new covered patio was added at the back of the house, echoing the style of the carport with a sleek flat roof. This new outdoor area provided shade, enhanced everyday usability, and strengthened the home’s functionality and cohesive design.

Addressing Site Challenges
One of the first things we tackled was the brickwork. Before rendering, we had to properly prep the existing brick facade so that the surface was clean, stable, and ready to take the new finish. That meant pressure washing, sealing, and applying base coats to get a smooth result. We also carefully coordinated the roof restoration with the guttering replacement and exterior painting to maintain colour consistency and ensure everything is watertight.
All in all, the project came down to thoughtful planning and solid execution, and we were able to refresh the home’s exterior without changing the existing underlying structure, helping get maximum visual change for the allocated budget. We bring the same level of care to smaller projects too, especially ones that seem simple at first glance.
