Modern Janette St Camp Hill Exterior Home Renovation Before and After

This Camp Hill house renovation was all about updating a tired façade into something sleek, minimal, and timeless. The original red brick, breeze block screening, and timber elements were showing their age. The homeowners wanted a fresh new look that would improve street appeal, reduce maintenance, and give the property a modern architectural edge.

Before: The Problem with the Old Exterior

The original facade of this two-story Camp Hill home reflected the typical style of the 1960s and 70s which is functional but far from modern. The exterior featured a mix of outdated materials including red brick, weatherboard, and exposed timber that had become weathered over time. Heavy visual elements such as the breezeblock fence and decorative trims contributed to a cluttered, dated look. Aging timber features like the balustrades, lattice, and decorative trims were deteriorating, requiring constant maintenance.

The lack of cohesion between the different exterior finishes and colours made the home feel disjointed. Additionally, the old tiled roof and concrete driveway added to the home’s tired appearance. The homeowners were looking for a modern, clean-lined transformation to update their home and increase its resale value.

Project Details: How We Transformed the Exterior

Transforming this Camp Hill’s home exterior required a thoughtful approach to modernisation while working within the existing structure. The goal was to create a sleek, cohesive design that enhanced curb appeal, improved functionality, and provided a low-maintenance finish. Through strategic material choices and smart design updates, we achieved a stunning, contemporary transformation.

Contemporary Cladding & Rendering

We rendered the entire home exterior to unify its appearance, covering the mix of red brick and weatherboard beneath. This created a clean, modern facade that instantly refreshed the home’s look. By using neutral tones, we ensured that key design elements such as the balcony and new front door stood out while maintaining a sophisticated and timeless aesthetic.

Roof and Outdoor Entertaining Upgrade

Being structurally sound, the original roof was restored and repainted, giving the home a contemporary and refreshed look. The enclosed garage which previously featured timber slat doors was upgraded with modern roller doors for a cleaner aesthetic. The old breezeblock walls were also removed to make way for a stylish new carport, creating an additional undercovered car parking option.

Modern Balcony and Entry Upgrade

The old balcony was completely redesigned as part of the updated exterior. Frameless glass balustrades were installed to open up the facade visually while the timber deck was sanded and refinished to add character, warmth and contrast against the neutral exterior. The front entry also received a striking update with a solid timber door, serving as a bold focal point that enhances the home’s welcoming appeal.

Updated Windows and Screens

To achieve a more polished and uniform look, we replaced the mismatched window trims and security screens with sleek black-framed screens. This improved the overall aesthetics and provided enhanced security and functionality. The consistent design across all windows helped create a streamlined, modern finish.

Challenges in Changing the Exterior

Renovating a dated, mid-century home into a modern home on a limited budget came with several challenges. Achieving a seamless blend of old and new requires careful material selection and precise workmanship. Instead of a full rebuild, we focused on modernising the existing structure with strategic design updates that gave  a fresh and contemporary look without overspending. Whether renovating the exterior or interior of your home, a well-executed renovation requires careful planning and working with dependable contractors.
